Procedural sedation and analgesia is an essential element of care for children requiring painful procedures in the emergency department. The practice of combining ketamine and propofol, two common medications used in emergency departments, has become more popular. However, until recently, it was unclear whether this practice was superior to the use of either agent alone, especially in children.
A new study published in the latest edition of a leading medical journal has shown that treatment with ULTRACET® (37.5 mg tramadol hydrochloride/325 mg acetaminophen tablets) demonstrates similar efficacy and better tolerability than TYLENOL® with Codeine No. 3 when each is compared to placebo.
Johns Hopkins scientists have discovered a protein that appears to play an important regulatory role in deciding whether stem cells differentiate into the cells that make up the brain, as well as countless other tissues.
New research suggests that young women with a family history of high blood pressure (hypertension) have decreased baroreflex function, which may increase their risk for hypertension later in life. The article, published ahead of print in the Journal of Neurophysiology, was chosen as an APSselect article for March.
