Glide Pharma, the pharmaceutical development and device company focused on solid dose formulations of therapeutics and vaccines, today announced that its novel solid formulation of octreotide acetate achieved successful results in a pre-clinical proof-of-concept study comparing it with the currently marketed liquid product (Sandostatin®).
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, has awarded a $10.6 million grant to researchers at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) and collaborators to determine how the human immune system responds to infection by pathogens of the gut. The funding will be used to apply mathematical modeling to the study of immune responses to gut pathogens.
The total cost of the destruction in Haiti, resulting from the major earthquake last month, could add up to twice the value of the country's annual economy, three Inter-American Development Bank economists said in a report on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.
