SuperSonic Imagine, the innovative medical imaging company based in Aix-en-Provence, France has unveiled some of the results of the largest clinical breast study ever undertaken in ultrasound imaging. The worldwide multicenter study, involving top clinicians in the breast radiology community, is assessing the clinical benefits of ShearWave™ Elastography in the ultrasonic evaluation of breast lesions.
The benefits of hydroxyurea treatment in people with sickle cell disease are well known - fewer painful episodes, fewer blood transfusions and fewer hospitalizations. Now new research from the Johns Hopkins Children's Center and other institutions reveals that by preventing such complications, the drug can also considerably lower the overall cost of medical care in children with this condition.
According to a new report by iData Research, the leading global authority in medical device and pharmaceutical market research, the retail European hearing aid and audiology device market was valued at over €3.8 billion in 2010, while the wholesale market was valued at almost €1.3 billion The retail market is expected to grow rapidly by 2017 due to aggressive growth strategies among local and international retail chains and the adoption of new technologies such as wireless Bluetooth hearing aids and receiver-in-canal models.
Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said during a Wednesday Senate Finance Committee hearing that the current lack of coordination for people who are on both Medicare and Medicaid leads to massive amounts of waste and low-quality care, but an Obama administration official said more time was needed to address this issue. Also, a new report written by Emory University's Kenneth Thorpe and funded by America's Health Insurance Plans sets a high possible savings estimate if this coordination goal can be achieved.
Health professionals on Tuesday held vigils in several cities worldwide to protest the imprisonment of Iranian brothers Kamiar and Arash Alaei - physicians and leading HIV/AIDS advocates in the country - following the release of Iranian-American journalist Roxana Saberi, the Albany Times Union reports.
