A 5-year-old British autistic boy has died after undergoing a controversial form of alternative therapy.
Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Anette Ziegler, scientists of the Diabetes Research Group at Helmholtz Zentrum München and Technische Universität München investigated the formation of antibodies to a zinc transporter in children with elevated risk for type 1 diabetes. The study provided indications of an early onset of the disease when specific antibodies in the blood and specific variants of the associated zinc transporter are present in the genome.
The lightning speed with which scientists developed and tested the COVID-19 vaccine is a true scientific triumph - one that would not have been possible without the more than 70,000 volunteers who participated in clinical trials of the vaccine.
New data show that more than 50% of patients and carers struggled to cope with challenges of living with lung cancer.
