Cadence Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that its underwriters partially exercised their over-allotment option in connection with its previously announced public offering that priced on November 11, 2010, by purchasing an additional 1,000,000 shares of its common stock at a public offering price of $8.00 per share. Including the over-allotment shares purchased, Cadence sold a total of 12,500,000 shares in the offering, resulting in expected aggregate gross proceeds to the company of $100 million.
HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced today more than $32 million in FY 2010 funds to increase access to health care for Americans living in rural areas. The funds reach across seven programs administered by the Office of Rural Health Policy in HHS' Health Resources and Services Administration.
Cells that consume parts of themselves can stop this process autonomously as well. This was discovered by NWO researcher Judith Klumperman's group, in collaboration with colleagues from the National Institute of Health in Washington. The self-cannibalism is part of the normal digestive process of the cell, but also a survival mechanism in times of famine. This is what makes it difficult for doctors to 'starve out' cancer cells, for instance. The research results were published on 6 June in Nature.
Do we need a revision of current recommendations for breast cancer screening? According to a recent prospective multicenter cohort study published in the "Journal of Clinical Oncology", this appears advisable at least for young women carrying an increased risk of breast cancer. The results of the EVA trial confirm once more that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is substantially more accurate for early diagnosis of breast cancer than digital mammography or breast ultrasound: MRI is three times more sensitive for breast cancer than digital mammography.
