New research from the University of Virginia Health System could help explain why some alcoholics are more severe drinkers than others.
Obese children who get kidney transplants tend to be younger, shorter and on dialysis longer than their leaner peers, according to a study in the February issue of the journal Pediatrics.
NewLink Genetics Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing cancer therapeutics, today announced the initiation of a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled Phase 2 clinical study of its first IDO (indoleamine-(2,3)-dioxygenase) pathway inhibitor, indoximod, in patients with metastatic breast cancer.
According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, the average sleep apnea sufferer stops breathing and loses oxygen between five and 30 times a night. This lack of oxygen leads to a host of complications, including high blood pressure, vascular disease, an abnormal heart rhythm, or even a fatal cardiac event. Now, a team of University of Missouri researchers is exploring the changes in distinct brain regions that contribute to these symptoms in hopes of combating this common health issue.
Researchers in Australia have reported that pregnant women in Melbourne were more likely to have a preterm stillbirth during the period when coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) lockdown restrictions were imposed on the city, than they were during the corresponding period one and two years prior.
