The majority of drugs used to treat asthma today are the same ones that were used 50 years ago. New drugs are urgently needed to treat this chronic respiratory disease, which causes nearly 25 million people in the United States alone to wheeze, cough, and find it difficult at best to take a deep breath.
A new workshop organised by Monash University will include invited presentations from Copley Scientific, the world's leading provider of inhaler testing equipment, Freeman Technology, global leaders in the field of powder characterisation, and ATA Scientific, distributors of Malvern Panalytical materials characterisation systems.
The majority of Australians (58%) are worried about their brain health and the threat of age-related degenerative brain disease, according to a new survey. The national survey was commissioned by leading medical research institute Neuroscience Research Australia and polled 1000 Australians aged 18 to over 75.
Health ministers from the G8 nations will meet in London today (11 December) to discuss the global health challenge posed by dementia. The summit aims to develop co-ordinated global action on dementia. One area of focus at the summit is preventing and delaying dementia.
A team of Penn State researchers is planning to create a new map of the brain that will establish a neural circuit diagram of oxytocin, a compound often associated with affection and emotional behavior. Researchers hope the map will give them insight into how oxytocin in the brain drives social behavior.
