Patients who had received livers from hepatitis B virus core antibody (HBcAb) positive (indicates prior exposure to hepatitis B) and/or hepatitis C virus (HCV) positive donors had similar graft and patient survival compared to patients who received HBcAb negative or HCV negative livers, according to a study by the University of Pittsburgh's Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute.
Researchers at McGill University in Montreal on Tuesday announced they will soon launch an international clinical trial to determine if latent tuberculosis can be treated successfully with a four-month treatment course of the TB drug rifampin rather than the standard nine-month treatment with the TB drug isoniazid, the CP/Toronto Sun reports.
The plan is said to contain "modest" Medicare savings. Meanwhile, Politico reports that the "window" of opportunity for the so-called "gang of six," which is working on a separate track to craft budget solutions and also includes Conrad, is getting smaller.
