...according to a study by scientists at New York University and Harvard University. The findings, which appear in the latest issue of Science, show this effect for both Black and White Americans.
Researchers at the Tulane University School of Medicine, in New Orleans, LA, have demonstrated that thymoquinone a major component of black seed oil (Nigella sativa) can suppress the growth of several aggressive prostate cancer cell lines, in vitro. Although previous studies have shown the anti-proliferative effects of TQ in different types of cancers, the molecular mechanism of this effect of TQ had not been delineated.
UAB School of Nursing postdoctoral fellow J. Nicholas Dionne-Odom, Ph.D., has received a five-year, $935,000 K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award from the National Institute of Nursing Research to develop a palliative care health-coaching program for family caregivers of persons with advanced cancer.
Men benefit from one-time screening for abdominal aortic aneurysms via ultrasound. Studies provide proof that their risk of dying is reduced, the abdominal aorta ruptures less often, and emergency surgery can be avoided more often. Far fewer data are available for women and they show no relevant differences between the groups investigated.
