Leaky blood vessels in the brain called cerebral microbleeds are associated with an increased risk of physical and cognitive disability in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), according to a new study by researchers in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo.
Colorado cancer researchers and medical doctors on Wednesday announced they are launching a $200,000 feasibility study as a key step to building the nation's first carbon-ion radiotherapy research and treatment facility in Aurora, where they and colleagues hope to investigate and provide to patients leading-edge radiation therapy that is effective against the deadliest cancers and now is available only in Europe and Japan.
More than two-thirds of women and almost three-quarters of men receiving care at Veterans Affairs outpatient facilities in 2000 were overweight – a higher percentage than among the general population – according to a new report in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
Efforts to treat cancer using genes and other oligonucleotides, such as short interfering RNA (siRNA), that turn off the biochemical processes that trigger malignancies have been hindered by difficulties in delivering nucleic acids to tumors.
