The diabetes population in the United States will almost double over the next 25 years and annual medical spending on the disease is projected to hit $336 billion, up from $113 billion today, according to a study published in the December issue of Diabetes Care. The National Changing Diabetes® Program (NCDP), a program of Novo Nordisk, commissioned the analysis by a team from the University of Chicago.
Heart tissue and stem cells spring into action to begin repairing muscle damaged in a heart attack, and researchers at Duke University School of Medicine found that a protein naturally produced in the body may potentially play a role in accelerating heart muscle repair.
A research team led by Brigham and Women's Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has uncovered surprising new findings that underscore the role of an important signaling pathway, already known to be critical in cancer, in the development of type 2 diabetes.
Over 9,000 people across Cheshire and Merseyside joined a quarter of a million people in the UK choosing to turn their back on cigarettes this month in the mass 28-day stop smoking challenge, Stoptober. In Merseyside, 7187 people signed up along with 1,288 people in Cheshire West and Chester.
A Rutgers-led experimental study found that women prefer and invest more in daughters, while men favor and invest more in their sons.
