"White House spokesman Robert Gibbs insists the Obama administration has not shifted its goals on health care reform or distanced itself from a government-run public insurance option." He told reporters today that stories indicating the Obama administration was backing away from including the public option in its push to overhaul the health system were "overblown."
Despite the positive results that it brings in the treatment of insomnia, access to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has been difficult given the limited awareness of CBT services amongst referrers such as primary care providers.
A recent editorial published in the Public Library of Science's Neglected Tropical Diseases called Chagas disease, a parasite which kills about 20,000 people a year, "the AIDS of the Americas." The disease can be transferred to a child from its mother or by blood transfusions. About 20 percent of those infected can develop life-threatening illness that includes enlarged hearts or intestines, and the drugs used today to treat the disease can take months to work.
Collegium Pharmaceutical, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company, today announced that a new patent has been issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) relating to its tamper-resistant DETERx™ formulation platform. US Patent Number 7,771,707 contains claims that cover Collegium's proprietary extended-release formulations, which are designed to resist dose dumping when subjected to a variety of physical methods of tampering.
As part of its special report "Healing the World," GlobalPost examines country ownership within the Global Health Initiative (GHI). The news service writes that Rwandan Health Minister Agnes Binagwaho told GlobalPost that a GHI focus on gender-based violence in Rwanda was a "curious" decision, which "she said ... wasn't a priority and no one had asked her if that fit in with the national plan."
