Data presented today on Medtronic's Solitaire stent retriever at the International Stroke Conference in Houston demonstrate that the results from the four pivotal randomized controlled trials – SOLITAIRE FR With the Intention For Thrombectomy as PRIMary Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke, Endovascular Treatment for Small Core and Proximal Occlusion Ischemic Stroke, EXtending the Time for Thrombolysis in Emergency Neurological Deficits - Intra-Arterial and Endovascular Revascularization With Solitaire Device Versus Best Medical Therapy in Anterior Circulation Stroke Within 8 Hours – can be replicated in U.S. centers, in a pragmatic, real-world setting reconfirming the benefits of mechanical thrombectomy in patients suffering acute ischemic stroke (AIS).
Since implementation of a medical need-based allocation system of donor lungs in 2005, double-lung transplantation has been associated with better graft survival than single-lung transplantation in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF); at 5 years, there has been no survival difference between single- and double-lung transplant recipients in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), according to a study in the March 3 issue of JAMA.
Results of the first study of its kind to link abnormalities in circadian rhythms to changes in specific neurotransmitters in people with bipolar disorder will be published this week in the journal Biological Psychiatry.
A research team at the Krembil Research Institute has discovered that a signaling pathway which controls blood vessel development in the brain has the ability to stop brain tumor formation in animal models of medulloblastoma, the most common malignant brain tumor diagnosed in children.
