One in three nursing home residents who have Alzheimer's disease are not getting their vision corrected so they can see clearly, according to new Saint Louis University research in the July issue of the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association.
Patients with acute coronary syndrome who were treated with the experimental drug varespladib were more likely to experience additional cardiovascular events - including sudden death, heart attack and stroke - than those treated with placebo, according to research from the Cleveland Clinic Coordinating Center for Clinical Research (C5Research).
Researchers at Sandia National Laboratories have developed a super-resolution microscopy technique that is answering long-held questions about exactly how and why a cell's defenses fail against some invaders, such as plague, while successfully fending off others like E.coli.
More than 30 abstracts presented at the 60th American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting & Exposition in San Diego, December 1-4, featured research highlighting the ability of Bio-Rad's Droplet Digital PCR to provide high sensitivity and accuracy in quantifying minimal residual disease - those remaining cancer cells after therapy that are associated with relapse - in blood diseases such as leukemia.
