In this post in the Center for Global Development's (CGD) "Global Health Policy" blog, Victoria Fan, a research fellow at the Center for Global Development (CGD), and Felix Lam, a malaria research analyst, examine the discrepancies between the WHO's estimated number of malaria deaths worldwide and the data recently released by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.
Hillenbrand reported net revenue of $161.5 million for the first quarter of 2010, which ended December 31, 2009, a $5 million (3 percent) decline from the same period in fiscal 2009. The company posted net income of $29.5 million, a $3 million (11.3 percent) increase from the first quarter of last year. Earnings per diluted share for the first quarter of 2010 increased by $0.05 (11.6 percent) over the prior year period, from $0.43 to $0.48.
The Community Health Network of Washington (CHNW) applauds Governor Locke's decision today to delay implementation of Medicaid premiums for children. The premiums, which would have affected children between 150% and 200% of the Federal Poverty Line (FPL), have been delayed until July 2005.
The presentation of the PLATO (A Study of Platelet Inhibition and Patient Outcomes), showed that ticagrelor (Brilinta) reduced the rate of cardiovascular (CV) events (CV death, myocardial infarction or stroke) from 11.7% to 9.8% compared clopidogrel (Plavix®) XX% (p<0.001, RRR = 16%), without an increase in major bleeding.
United Therapeutics Corporation announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has acknowledged the resubmission of the new drug application (NDA) for treprostinil diolamine extended release tablets (oral treprostinil) for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension.
