Research carried out at the Health Sciences department of the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón, Spain, has identified the genes responsible for sun sensitivity and skin cancer vulnerability.
Scientists from the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Scripps Research Institute have uncovered the role played by the least-understood part of a first-responder molecule that rushes in to bind and repair breaks in DNA strands, a process that helps people avoid cancer.
Sub-Saharan African countries likely will not meet the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals - which include reducing the spread of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria - by 2015, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Monday at the U.N. Conference on Trade and Development in Accra, Ghana, AFP/Google.com reports.
