Some public health experts recently have expressed concern that proponents of human papillomavirus vaccination legislation - including Merck, producer of the HPV vaccine Gardasil - have acted "far too fast" and are "potentially undermining eventual prospects for the broadest possible immunization," the New York Times reports .
HIV-1-infected U.S. military members and beneficiaries treated with antiretroviral therapy (ART) soon after infection were half as likely to develop AIDS and were more likely to reconstitute their immune-fighting CD4+ T-cells to normal levels, researchers reported Nov. 24 in JAMA Internal Medicine.
The Australian Medical Association has recommended the use of graphic television advertisements in Victoria to warn people about the risks of eating fatty foods. Rising rates of obesity has prompted these extreme measures. The proposed ads in television and newspaper would cost $25 million and would show the effects of fat on the body's internal organs. The AMA's proposals are part of a submission calling for $63 million to fight obesity.
The study, which appeared on the pre-print server medRxiv, presented mortality rates and case-fatality rates for COVID-19 compared with other historic leading causes of death in the United States.
