Since the introduction of the combination anti-retroviral therapy (cART) in the mid-90s, the life expectancy of HIV patients has significantly improved. As a result, long-term complications are becoming more relevant: almost every second HIV patient is affected by neurocognitive disorders, which can lead to dementia.
Musculoskeletal pain of the bone, joint and muscles is one of the most common reasons for primary care visits in the United States. According to a literature review appearing in a recent issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS), chronic pain, or pain that persists beyond an expected period of healing, is estimated to affect 100 million Americans.
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. today announced that its subsidiary, Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc., has signed an agreement with Novartis to settle patent litigation involving Teva's U.S. generic version of Novartis' Famvir® (famciclovir) 125 mg, 250 mg and 500 mg tablets including all claims for patent infringement and damages. Teva launched its generic famciclovir tablets in the U.S. in September 2007.
Two children arrived on a flight from Mexico to Denver showing symptoms of the contagious illness called ‘hand, foot and mouth' disease (HFMD) and were checked by paramedics. They were allowed to leave after experts said they were no threat to public health.
