Arteriovenous malformations, the most common cause of strokes in children and young adults, are sometimes left untreated, but a sweeping new study strongly suggests that is generally a mistake.
Ultrasound is often used as a first-line diagnostic exam to quickly and safely diagnose a range of patient conditions. At this year's American College of Cardiology annual meeting in New Orleans, April 2 - 5, 2011, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc., will highlight new enhancements to its cardiac and shared service ultrasound systems that are designed to enhance cardiac ultrasound imaging.
The hippocampus in the brain's temporal lobe is responsible for more than just long-term memory. Researchers have for the first time demonstrated that it is also involved in quick and successful conflict resolution.
The cause of neuronal death in Parkinson's disease is still unknown, but a new study proposes that neurons may be mistaken for foreign invaders and killed by the person's own immune system, similar to the way autoimmune diseases like type I diabetes, celiac disease, and multiple sclerosis attack the body's cells.
