Herpes virus present within the body long after the overt infection may play a role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease say researchers. The study titled, "Multiscale Analysis of Independent Alzheimer's Cohorts Finds Disruption of Molecular, Genetic, and Clinical Networks by Human Herpesvirus" appeared in the latest issue of the journal Neuron, this Thursday.
Adherence to interferon, an important medication used to treat Hepatitis C, is critical to successfully clearing the virus that causes the disease. A new observational analysis by Medco Health Solutions, Inc. finds that when Hepatitis C patients are also being treated for depression - a frequent side effect of interferon use - they are more likely to remain on their interferon therapy.
New research from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) suggests that seemingly small changes in summer temperature swings-as little as 1-C more than usual-may shorten life expectancy for elderly people with chronic medical conditions, and could result in thousands of additional deaths each year.
