Coalition to Protect Patients Rights spokesman Donald J. Palmisano, MD, expressed concern this week over the recently passed health care bill's flaws after new survey results indicated that overall health care costs actually will increase following the bill's passage.
A study by researchers at NYU Langone Medical Center have found that obese adolescents with type 2 diabetes have diminished cognitive performance and subtle abnormalities in the brain as detected by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Identification of cognitive impairments as a complication of type 2 diabetes emphasizes the importance of addressing issues of inactivity and obesity, two important risk factors for the development of the disease among the young.
Kallistem, which develops innovative cell culture technologies in reproductive biology, today announces a world first: human spermatogenesis in vitro. At the end of 2014 the company was able to produce fully formed human spermatozoa in the laboratory setting, using patient testicular biopsies containing only immature germ cells, or spermatogonia.
A new study from the Regenstrief Institute and the Indiana University Center for Aging Research has found that nursing home care improves in critical areas - including falls, quality of life and rehospitalizations - when state government and nursing homes collaborate in a performance-based incentive program that promotes local solutions to local problems.
Since 2001 the use of antibiotics in intensive care units in Germany has increased by 19%. This is a result of a cohort study that was initiated at that time: the SARI study.
