Michael Green, M.D., Ph.D., noticed that when his patients had cancer that spread to the liver, they fared poorly – more so than when cancer spread to other parts of the body. Not only that, but transformative immunotherapy treatments had little impact for these patients.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Afinitor oral tablets (everolimus) for the treatment of patients with advanced kidney cancer whose disease has progressed after treatment with other cancer therapies.
In an effort to better serve the Medicare population in our community, PeaceHealth Medical Group in Oregon has contracted with Sterling Insurance to become a network hospital serving Sterling Medicare SELECT policyholders. Sterling Medicare SELECT, underwritten by Sterling Life Insurance Company, is a Medicare Supplement insurance plan offering lower premiums to policyholders in exchange for using a network hospital when hospital care is needed.
Should parents be able to use medical means to restrict the growth of profoundly disabled children to make them easier to care for at home. A working group convened to discuss the ethical and policy considerations of "growth attenuation" proposes some guidelines in an article in the Hastings Center Report. Personal essays including those of parents whose children cannot walk or speak accompany the article
A report released today by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) finds that the quality of U.S. health care was virtually stagnant in 2008, a disturbing slowdown after a decade of improvements. The across-the-board trend was seen in care provided to people with private insurance coverage as well as in Medicare and Medicaid.
