A new study by psychologists at the University at Buffalo and the F. W. Olin College of Engineering finds that in the aftermath of national trauma, the ability to make sense out of what happened has implications for individual well-being and that the kinds of stories people tell about the incident predict very different psychological outcomes for them.

Now, UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers have identified a key molecular mechanism that regulates the brain's ability to mentally compensate for sleep deprivation.
A large and growing body of research shows that poor kids grow up to have a host of physical problems as adults.
The journal Lancet published a series of articles examining health issues in South Africa, suggesting that "South Africa's health system is failing women and children in particular, but that new leadership could solve many of the problems," the Associated Press/msnbc.com reports (8/24).
The American Public Health Association has recognized the vision and innovation of Age-friendly NYC with its 2013 Archstone Foundation Award for Excellence in Program Innovation. The award will be presented to Dorian Block, Manager of Age-friendly NYC, during the APHA's Public Health Awards Reception and Ceremony on Tuesday, November 5, 2013.
