Scientists at The Scripps Research Institute have shown that an injectable solution can protect mice from an otherwise lethal overdose of cocaine. The findings could lead to human clinical trials of a treatment designed to reverse the effects of cocaine in case of emergency. Cocaine is involved in more than 400,000 emergency-room visits and about 5,000 overdose deaths each year in the United States.
A recent finding by researchers at the BC Cancer Research Institute and the University of British Columbia may offer a new treatment possibility for people diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer.
WuXi PharmaTech, a leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device research and development outsourcing company with operations in China and the United States, announced today it has purchased a Labcyte POD(TM) 810 plate assembler equipped with an Echo(R) 555 acoustic liquid handler for its work in high- throughput screening and secondary screening.
New research findings released in the August 2006 edition of the journal Tobacco Control demonstrate clearly that providing smokers with access to free counseling and nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), such as patches and gum, significantly increases their odds of quitting.
