VELCADE sNDA receives FDA approval

Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a supplemental new drug application (sNDA) for VELCADE, which expands the label to include long-term (median follow-up 36.7 months) overall survival (OS) data from the landmark VISTA trial and provides specific dosing recommendations for patients with hepatic impairment. The VISTA trial examined the use of VELCADE based therapy in patients with previously untreated multiple myeloma (MM).

Use of NSAIDs do not increase risk of heart attack in elderly patients: Study

Commonly used painkillers like ibuprofen do not increase the risk of heart attack in the elderly population, according to a new study. Researchers found that the use of these drugs - also called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs - was also associated with a lower risk of death although they are not sure why.

Nanotope's bioactive nanofiber system promotes cartilage regeneration

Arrowhead Research Corporation today announced publication in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) of a study using Nanotope's lead compound for cartilage regeneration. The study's authors, which include Nanotope co-founder Dr. Samuel Stupp, showed that Nanotope's bioactive nanofiber system promotes the growth of new cartilage in a rabbit model. The treatment is engineered to repair cartilage defects by working with an animal's own bone marrow stem cells to stimulate the production of new natural cartilage.
