Patients who trust their doctors are more likely to stick to their prescription medicines, even if they face high out-of-pocket costs, a new study finds. But patients who have lower levels of trust in their physicians, or who have depression-like symptoms, are much more likely to skip doses or refills when costs become a problem for them.
Research conducted at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, has looked at the importance of specific neurons for seemingly simple, day-to-day tasks that involve reaching for and grasping objects.
An expansion of health insurance to more U.S. residents - with "business, patients and government sharing the cost" - is important, but unless "we find cures, American families will continue to be plagued by costly and debilitating fatal diseases such as cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer's" disease, former Rep. Harold Ford (D-Tenn.), chair of the Democratic Leadership Council, and Al From, founder and CEO of the council, write in a Memphis Commercial Appeal opinion piece.
South African public health experts from Medecins San Frontieres (MSF) South Africa and the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) "are calling on governments to use legally available mechanisms to promote the production or import of generic drugs in their countries," Inter Press Service reports.
