Royal Philips today announced its collaboration with the University of California, Irvine, to explore how spectral breast imaging can improve breast density measurement, potentially aiding clinicians in more accurately gauging breast cancer risks and monitoring changes over time.
Siemens Healthineers announced today the company is expanding its informatics capabilities for point-of-care testing with the acquisition of Conworx Technology GmbH, the Berlin-based developer of point-of-care device interfaces and data management solutions.
Rockwell Medical, a fully-integrated biopharmaceutical company offering innovative products and services targeting end-stage renal disease (ESRD), chronic kidney disease (CKD), and iron deficiency anemia, announced today that Phase IIb data for its lead drug candidate Soluble Ferric Pyrophosphate (SFP) have been accepted for presentation at the XLVII European Renal Association - European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA) Congress, organized in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Nephrologie (DGfN) in Munich, Germany, June 25-28, 2010.
Severe COVID-19 causes sepsis-like manifestations, intense lung injury, and multi-organ failure, all associated with the overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines. This "cytokine storm" directly correlates with poor prognosis in this subgroup of patients.
To enhance the visibility of organs as they are scanned with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), patients are usually injected with a compound known as a contrast agent before going into the scanner. The most commonly used MRI contrast agents are based on the metal gadolinium; however, these metal compounds can be harmful for young children or people with kidney problems.
