Eisai Inc. announced today that it resubmitted the New Drug Application (NDA) for the investigational AMPA-type glutamate receptor antagonist perampanel for partial-onset seizures associated with epilepsy to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on December 22, 2011.
For those most severely affected, treating epilepsy means drilling through the skull deep into the brain to destroy the small area where the seizures originate - invasive, dangerous and with a long recovery period.
Glial cells of the nervous system, once thought to function strictly as support cells for neurons, are now thought to actively modulate them.
Even short-term exposure to air pollution impacts our brain performance and capacity to work, according to researchers from The University of Queensland and Carnegie Mellon University.
Poultry workers in the United States are 32 times more likely to carry E. coli bacteria resistant to the commonly used antibiotic, gentamicin, than others outside the poultry industry, according to a recent study conducted by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
