Obstructive pulmonary disease is a collective term for refractory respiratory diseases with chronic airway inflammation and excessive mucus retention that are accompanied by airway obstruction.
BIOTONE announces a donation of $5,000 to the Council of Community Clinics to help fund diagnostics for breast cancer. The San Diego-based Council of Community Clinics provides centralized support services to 16 member community clinic and health center organizations operating nearly 100 sites in San Diego, Imperial, and Riverside Counties in California.
A study, published today in BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, shows that the proportion of babies born with neural tube defects in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador dropped by 78% after the Canadian Government directed that folic acid must be added to flour, cornmeal and pasta. The study supports the continuation of this food fortification strategy.
On July 29, 2010 the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) and the Medical Publishing Insights and Practices (MPIP) initiative launched a new web page highlighting various MPIP initiatives (http://www.mpip-initiative.org). The web page is a valuable resource providing information on the overall MPIP initiative, updating viewers on new or planned activities, and providing access to previous MPIP publications and resources.
Marking World Water Day in a speech Monday, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said tackling the world's water problems "represents one of the great diplomatic and development opportunities of our time," Inter Press Service reports. "It's not every day you find an issue where effective diplomacy and development will allow you to save millions of lives, feed the hungry, empower women, advance our national security interests, protect the environment, and demonstrate to billions of people that the United States cares," she said.
