In a guest post in the Center for Global Health Policy's "Science Speaks" blog, part of the blog's coverage leading up to World Tuberculosis Day, Madhukar Pai, an associate professor of epidemiology at McGill University, Montreal, and an associate director of the McGill International TB Centre, "looks at the need for an evolving approach to tuberculosis."
Karen Ignagni, the health industry's chief lobbyist, said Tuesday that insurers were being singled out and vilified for their role in health care reform when they are the ones trying to reform the system, The New York Times reports.
UC Davis Health System dermatologists, using videoconferencing technology known as teledemedicine, have determined that live interactive consultations can improve clinical outcomes for patients because they usually involve beneficial changes in medical diagnosis and disease management that otherwise might not occur.
Surgeons from UC Davis Medical Center have demonstrated that artificial muscles can restore the ability of patients with facial paralysis to blink, a development that could benefit the thousands of people each year who no longer are able to close their eyelids due to combat-related injuries, stroke, nerve injury or facial surgery.
