Data presented today at the 2015 European Cancer Congress (ECC) demonstrates that the investigational immunotherapy atezolizumab may prevent progression of metastatic urothelial bladder cancer (mUBC) in all age groups by 2.1 months.
Endocyte, Inc., a cancer drug discovery and development company, today announced it has received a milestone payment from Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE: BMY). This payment was triggered by the commencement of a Phase II clinical trial for an epothilone-folate anti-cancer agent identified through the collaboration between Endocyte and Bristol-Myers Squibb scientists.
The National Institutes of Health awarded a research team at the George Washington University $7.8 million to establish a rare disease network for myasthenia gravis. The network, which will be part of 25 established NIH Rare Diseases Clinical Research Networks, will include basic and clinical investigators, patient advocacy groups, and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies working together to enhance therapeutic development for this rare disease.
Children with inborn errors of metabolism received vaccines on the same immunization schedule as did healthy infants, according to Kaiser Permanente Vaccine Study Center scientists who examined the Kaiser Permanente Northern California population. In addition, immunization was not associated with significant increases in emergency room visits or hospitalizations during the month following vaccination, according to Nicola Klein, MD, PhD, lead author of the study and co-director of the Kaiser Permanente Vaccine Study Center.
The New York Times reports that a "rogue cancer unit" at a veteran's hospital in Philadelphia "operated with virtually no outside scrutiny and botched 92 of 116 [prostate] cancer treatments over a span of more than six years - and then kept quiet about it, according to interviews with investigators, government officials and public records."
