Sleeping sickness creates a metabolic 'fingerprint' in the blood and urine, which could enable a new test to be developed to diagnose the disease, according to new research published today in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
The patient is a previously healthy man from Aberdeen, South Dakota who developed fever and headache and was diagnosed by his physician as having West Nile virus on Monday of this week. South Dakota has about 50 times higher incidence of West Nile virus this summer than California.
Tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFis) are used to treat inflammatory conditions, such as RA. These agents work by blocking TNF, an important mediator of inflammation in RA, in order to help reduce inflammation and stop disease progression.
