Canadian scientists believe they may be some way to solving the mystery of why women suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS) go into remission while they are pregnant.
Integra LifeSciences Holdings Corp announced today the launch of Integra Allograft Cancellous Sponge, a compressible bone graft composed of 100% cancellous bone. The sponge-like handling characteristics of Integra Allograft Cancellous Sponge allow it to absorb fluids like saline, blood or bone marrow aspirate.
In the current study, researchers investigate the transplacental transmission of antibodies in vaccinated pregnant women.
"Nanotechnology could aid the future of development of the Arab region," says Mohamed H.A. Hassan, executive director of TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world, and president of the African Academy of Sciences. Hassan made his remarks at a panel session, "Re-emergence of Science, Technology and Education as Priorities in the Arab World," taking place at the AAAS's annual meeting in San Diego.
Alcohol itself can directly damage liver cells. Now researchers at University of California, San Diego School of Medicine report evidence that alcohol is also harmful to the liver for a second reason — it allows gut bacteria to migrate to the liver, promoting alcohol-induced liver disease.
