A preoperative testing strategy combining two procedures may help improve the accuracy of determining the stage of lung cancer, according to an article in the August 24/31 issue of JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association.
The first study to examine brain activity patterns in severely traumatized children showed their brains function differently than those of healthy children, say researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.

Researchers from Yale University School of Medicine compared narrow-band imaging (NBI) without high magnification to standard white light colonoscopy in differentiating colorectal polyps during real-time colonoscopy and found that NBI was not more accurate than white light colonoscopy.
Foreign pharmaceutical companies on Wednesday accepted the decision of Ecuador's President Rafael Correa to enable the country "to bypass patents on 2,000 drugs in order to produce them locally or buy cheaper versions elsewhere," Agence France-Presse reports.
