Studies of the enzyme CTP synthetase in the parasite Trypanosoma brucei have brought researchers at Umeå University in Sweden closer to a cure for African sleeping sickness.
Researchers seeking new and more abundant sources of stem cells for use in regenerative medicine have identified a potentially unlimited, noncontroversial, easily collectable, and inexpensive source - menstrual blood.
In a pilot study by a team of researchers at The University of Texas at Austin, crystalline particles of titanium dioxide - the most common white pigment in everyday products ranging from paint to candies - were found in pancreas specimens with Type 2 diabetes, suggesting that exposure to the white pigment is associated with the disease.
A reproductive health bill introduced Tuesday in the House of Representatives in the Philippines "would require the government to provide information on family planning methods, make contraceptives available free of charge and introduce reproductive health and sexuality classes in schools," the Associated Press/Seattle Times reports, noting the scope of controversy surrounding this issue.
