A simple test of eyelid sensitivity may help vision professionals in evaluating one of the most common eye-related symptoms: dry eyes. A new study linking increased eyelid sensitivity to decreased function of the eyelid margins is presented in the article - " Lid Margins: Sensitivity, Staining, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, and Symptoms", appearing in the October issue of Optometry and Vision Science, official journal of the American Academy of Optometry.
Dominion Diagnostics (Dominion) has recently developed and validated one of the first clinical quantitative assays for the drug tapentadol (Nucynta(TM)) performed by liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). Tapentadol, recently approved for use by the FDA, is a centrally-active analgesic that has demonstrated efficacy in pain relief with improved gastrointestinal tolerability compared to other opioids for pain management.
There are major differences across Ontario's long-term care homes in the percentage of residents who are being prescribed antipsychotic medications, according to Looking for Balance, a report from Health Quality Ontario, the provincial advisor on health care quality.
Research in recent years has shown that the brain tries to counteract seizures. One of the ways it does this is by increasing levels of a protein-like molecule called neuropeptide Y and the expression of certain receptors for it.
