Researchers at UC Davis have found that the investigational cancer vaccine tecemotide, when administered with the chemotherapeutic cisplatin, boosted the immune response and reduced the number of tumors in mice with lung cancer.
Allergy testing and treatment may offer a new therapeutic option for many patients with interstitial cystitis (IC). IC is a severely painful bladder condition affecting as many as 8 million women and 1.5 million men in the United States. Patients and the providers who treat them have long noticed a correlation between allergies and IC.
A research team led by scientists from Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has developed a set of ingestible devices that draw energy from fluids in the stomach and the small intestine, and can provide power for nearly a week.
Professor Declan Murphy and colleagues Dr Michael Craig and Dr Marco Catani from the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London have found differences in the brain which may provide a biological explanation for psychopathy. The results of their study are outlined in the paper 'Altered connections on the road to psychopathy', published in Molecular Psychiatry.
Cold weather may raise blood pressure in elderly. In new research French are suggesting that elderly people may be more at risk of suffering a stroke, heart attack or kidney failure in winter because cold weather may raise their blood pressure.
