As part of their efforts to improve the effectiveness of both security and clinical workflows in the healthcare delivery process, Sentillion, whose identity and access management (IAM) solutions are the most widely implemented in healthcare, today announced their participation in the "Steering Committee on Telehealth and Healthcare Informatics" Healthcare Information Technology Showcase on Thursday, September 24th on Capitol Hill. The Technology Showcase is part of the activities of "National Health IT Week" going on September 21st – 25th in Washington DC.
In studies involving more than 35,000 people and a survey across the entire human genome, an international team supported in part by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has found evidence that common genetic variants recently linked to osteoarthritis may also play a minor role in human height.
Many people associate the word "bacteria" with something dirty and disgusting. Dr. Pere Santamaria disagrees. Called the microbiome, the bacteria in our bodies have all kinds of positive effects on our health, Santamaria says. "The bacteria we have in our gut actually have many beneficial functions. They help in our digestion, prevent infection by pathogens and educate our immune system on what to fight."
A new independent study by HealthGrades of patient outcomes at America's hospitals found that patients at 5-star rated hospitals had a 72% lower risk of dying when compared with patients at 1-star-rated hospitals - an enormous gap that has held steady over the past years even as overall mortality rates have improved.
The California Stem Cell Research and Cures Finance Committee on Monday unanimously approved a $181 million loan to the state's stem cell research institute, the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, in an effort to start the program, which has been stalled by lawsuits, the Los Angeles Times reports (La Ganga, Los Angeles Times, 11/21).
