National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientists have identified a promising lead for developing a new type of drug to treat infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus, a bacterium that frequently resists traditional antibiotics.
Scientists at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering's Biological Process Development Facility have successfully produced a drug compound with potential to block HIV transmission in women.
Octapharma USA today announced the second grant recipient of the Octapharma 25th Anniversary Grants Program is the Clinical Immunology Research Laboratory at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. The Octapharma Grants program supports clinical or pre-clinical research focused on human protein therapies in hematology, immune therapy, intensive care and emergency medicine.
If detected early, most cases of breast cancer are curable. But if the tumour has metastasized - or spread to a site outside of the breast - cure rates decline. A team of researchers from Lawson Health Research Institute and Western University have received $449,733 from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Ontario Region to study a rare subpopulation of tumour cells called cancer stem cells (CSCs) in hopes of uncovering the mystery behind metastasis.
