The growing threat of the H1N1 pandemic and West Nile virus - as well as other emerging zoonotic, food, or waterborne diseases and environmental changes - has prompted experts to look for solutions to the increasingly integrated problems among animal, human, and environmental health.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Minority Health, North Shore Medical Labs, Inc. and the American Health Information Management Association recently announced a demonstration project to foster broader adoption and use of Electronic Health Records and support national efforts to reduce health disparities affecting minorities in underserved areas.
People's perceptions of the cost of a drug may affect how much they benefit from the drug, even when they are receiving only a placebo, according to a new study of people with Parkinson's disease published in the January 28, 2015 online issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
Using a combination of newly developed methods, researchers led by Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet (LMU) in Munich immunologist Veit Hornung have defined a previously unknown pathway that triggers inflammation.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is proposing to amend postmarket safety reporting regulations for three of its centers to require that manufacturers and other facilities subject to current reporting requirements submit their reports in an electronic format.
