LASIK eye surgery - a laser reshaping of the cornea to improve vision - is one of the most popular elective surgeries in the United States, and a University of Houston professor of biomedical engineering intends to improve upon it by giving surgeons more information about the cornea before they begin.
Today, during the 89th General Session & Exhibition of the International Association for Dental Research, held in conjunction with the 40th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental Research and the 35th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, lead researcher Z. Zhang will hold an oral presentation on a study titled "Fuz is Essential for Craniofacial and Tooth Development."
Douglas Coleman, Ph.D., a retired Jackson Laboratory scientist whose work established the first clues to a genetic component in obesity, has won two major international science awards: the Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Biomedicine from the BBVA Foundation, based in Bilbao, Spain, and the King Faisal International Prize in Medicine from the Saudi Arabian King Faisal Foundation.
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring should be used to monitor patients with Type 2 diabetes who have a high risk for developing cardiovascular complications, say researchers.
New Zealand's Lake Alice hospital near Bulls in Rangitikei, which used to be self sufficient rural psychiatric set up housing the criminally insane since 1950 has been shut down since October 1999 and since then the hospital has been shrouded in controversies and plans for rebuilding and setting up new units.
