The results suggest that drugs that can boost the protein's production specifically in neurons could one day help ward off Alzheimer's disease.
Varian Medical Systems today announced that the company's TrueBeam system for image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery has received a 2011 R&D 100 Award from R&D Magazine. This annual award salutes the 100 most technologically significant products of the prior year, spanning many categories, from biomedical products to consumer items.

The award was announced last evening at the Good Design Awards Gala Night held in Sydney, Australia.
Many women in the WHO European Region, particularly those in their 40s, are diagnosed at a late stage of HIV infection when their immune system is already starting to fail. They are three to four times more likely to be diagnosed late than younger women.
