The U.S. Joint Commission recently approved new hospital accreditation measures related to alcohol screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) for all hospitalized patients. Yet little is known about the effectiveness of brief interventions (BIs) or inpatient acceptability of SBIRT when performed by healthcare professionals other than physicians. A new study has found high hospital-patient acceptability of and comfort with nurse-delivered SBIRT.
New research uncovers how a sticky protein called fibronectin promotes the activity of estrogen in breast cancer cells.
The RAND Corp. research finds that the law's provision allowing children up to the age of 26 to stay on their parents' health plans resulted in $147 million in hospital bills to be covered by insurance.
An Indiana University study found that strengthening inspiratory muscles by performing daily breathing exercises for six weeks significantly reduced the amount of oxygen these same breathing muscles required during exercise, possibly making more oxygen available for other muscles.
