Employers, insurers and health providers worry that requiring expansive coverage in the policies sold in health insurance markets could make insurance unaffordable.
New research presented today at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) identifies nicotine dependence, obesity, alcohol abuse and depressive disorders as risk factors for low back pain, a common condition causing disability, missed work, high medical costs and diminished life quality.
A novel strategy for circumventing safety problems that have plagued gene therapy has been offered by a complex multicenter group of researchers, including Professor Claudio Napoli, a Full Professor at the II University of Naples and Adjunct Professor at the Sbarro Research Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine and the Center of Biotechnology at the College of Science and Technology of Temple University.
At the annual meeting of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) on 30 June 2015, the Senate of the largest research funding organisation approved recommendations for "Developing Clinical Research at German Universities Between 2015 and 2025" (available in German).
Ten years ago, Southern Californian resident Kenny Atkins suffered from severe visual impairment caused by coning of the cornea, otherwise known as keratoconus. Prescription glasses and contact lenses proved to be ineffective, and Atkins needed a solution fast – as an ocean lifeguard, Atkins' ability to see could mean the difference between life and death.
