Probably the most worrisome health concern for Baby Boomers as they age is the increased possibility of visual impairment or vision loss. For this reason, early detection is critical in successfully preventing and treating eye conditions such as macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, before they lead to major visual changes.
BeiGene (Beijing), Co., Ltd., today announced dose administration for the first patient in a Phase 1 study of BGB-283 in patients with B-RAF or K-RAS mutations. BGB-283 is an investigational, oral, selective, potent second generation inhibitor of B-RAF, making it a targeted therapeutic candidate to potentially treat and bring benefit to patients with cancers that harbor BRAF mutations and/or aberrations in the RAS-MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) pathway.
A study published in the March 16 issue of Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) suggesting that a "daily-dose" of vitamin E (400 international units) among high-risk (chronically ill) cardiovascular patient populations is associated with a greater risk of heart failure is being challenged by leading health researchers around the country who claim the study lacks the adequate research and controlled sampling audience to justify this conclusion.
Surgeons at Vanderbilt University Medical Center performed five heart transplants in four days to place the institution among an elite group of transplant centers in the country -; reaching 1,000 heart transplantations.
