Australian scientists have successfully cleared a HIV-like infection from mice by boosting the function of cells vital to the immune response.
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that affects by some estimates nearly 1 in 100 people. Celiac disease symptoms are triggered by gluten, a protein found in wheat and related plants, but gluten doesn't act alone to cause the digestive symptoms that patients suffer.
Vemma Nutrition Company has donated in excess of $315,000 of its premium children's supplement, Vemma NEXT™ to Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) as a first step in an ongoing donation partnership with the New York City-based nonprofit. This first donation has been earmarked primarily to assist with long-term relief efforts in Haiti spearheaded by K.I.D.S. and Operation Compassion, giving Haitian children access to the vital nutrients they are so desperately missing in their sparse diets.

In a small study, doctors at Johns Hopkins have successfully transplanted 10 hepatitis C-infected kidneys into patients without hepatitis C and prevented the patients from becoming infected by hepatitis C. The success of these transplants could mean more organs being available for the nearly 100,000 people in the U.S. currently waiting for a kidney transplant.
