Combining industrial leadership and academic prowess, GE Healthcare and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) today announced a unique collaboration aimed at building a pipeline of Wisconsin-based medical imaging software developers and researchers to drive the next generation of healthcare technology globally.
The Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) says the new lowered exercise guidelines released today by the Public Health Agency of Canada represent minimums for a sedentary population, and will therefore not be applicable to all Canadians. Guidelines for exercise targets for Canadians should be based on health characteristics including health status and current activity levels.
Obesity in youngsters has risen dramatically in recent decades. Fruit and vegetable (FV) consumption and increased water intake can lower the risk of obesity, as can increased physical activity, but it is not always easy to convince children to eat better and exercise more. In a new study published in the January 2011 issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, researchers found that video games designed to encourage these behaviors were effective.
A simple, 10-minute bedside assessment conducted prior to surgery appears to be the best method yet for predicting which kidney transplant patients will do well with their new organs, new Johns Hopkins research suggests.
In labs around the world, each day, scientists rely on pipettes to perform basic but important tasks that involve accurate and reproducible liquid sample transfers. Like any other measuring instrument – pipettes are sophisticated instruments that are typically serviced and calibrated annually to guarantee their performance.
