New research suggests that rheumatoid arthritis may increase the risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Alzheimer's disease affects more than 26 million people worldwide. It is predicted to skyrocket as boomers age-nearly 106 million people are projected to have the disease by 2050.
Some severe forms of leukemia develop because proteins on the epigenetic level lose their regulative function. Now, in a broad international collaboration, UK researchers have identified molecules that can effectively inhibit the dysregulated proteins.
In an analysis of about 2,600 hospitalizations for severe sepsis, readmissions within 90 days were common, and approximately 40 percent occurred for diagnoses that could potentially be prevented or treated early to avoid hospitalization, according to a study in the March 10 issue of JAMA.
Bristol researchers have identified a heart protection mechanism in mice that surgeons and cardiologists may be able to exploit to improve treatments for patients in future.
