XenoPort, Inc. announced today its financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2013. Revenues for the fourth quarter were $2.9 million, compared to $0.5 million for the same period in 2012. Net loss for the fourth quarter was $19.1 million compared to net income of $3.0 million that resulted from a non-cash gain from XenoPort's litigation settlement with Glaxo Group Limited in the fourth quarter of 2012. At December 31, 2013, XenoPort had cash and cash equivalents and short-term investments of $58.7 million.

Removal of OTC drugs for toddlers from the market reduces therapeutic errors

A new study by researchers at the University of Maryland has revealed a 46 percent drop in reported errors after drugmakers in October 2007 removed from the market a number of over-the-counter cough and cold medications labeled for children under the age of 2.

Anthim (obiltoxaximab) injection approved for treatment of inhalational anthrax

On Friday, March 18, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Anthim (obiltoxaximab) injection to treat inhalational anthrax in combination with appropriate antibacterial drugs. Anthim is also approved to prevent inhalational anthrax when alternative therapies are not available or not appropriate.

Children of depressed parents more likely to have recurrent episodes of depression, poor outcomes in adulthood

The latest report from a 30-year study of families at high- and low-risk for depression reveals that the offspring of depressed parents have a higher risk for depression, morbidity and mortality that persists into middle age.
