The debate about using menopausal hormone therapies to relieve symptoms in post-menopausal women has been ongoing. Is the combination therapy of estrogen and progestin better or worse than just giving women estrogen alone? In women who still have a uterus (those who have not had a hysterectomy), progestin counteracts the increased risk of uterus cancer when estrogen is given alone, but at the expense of an increase in breast cancer risk compared to estrogen alone.
Why do opponents of same-sex marriage really oppose it? A UCLA psychology study published online today in the journal Psychological Science concludes that many people believe gay men and women are more sexually promiscuous than heterosexuals, which they may fear could threaten their own marriages and their way of life.
The Midwest Institute for Nanoelectronics Discovery (MIND) has purchased two plasma etch and deposition systems from Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology to further expand and facilitate its research capabilities. The FlexAL Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) system and the PlasmaPro System100 ICP etch system, will be installed in the Notre Dame Nanofabrication Facility, a 9,000 sq. ft. cleanroom, in the Stinson-Remick Hall of Engineering located on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA.
Using data from government agencies and private watchdogs, several websites provide consumer information on hospitals.
After much debate the parliament's upper house voted to maintain the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre in Kings Cross permanently this week on Wednesday. The votes stood 22 -15 for the centre to be given permanent status. This followed approval for a change from trial to permanent status by the lower house last week.
